What if choosing a leader began with creating one?

Before looking at candidates, campaign promises or political parties, imagine having the freedom to decide which qualities matter most to you.

Using two symbolic Jokers, the Red and the Black, this creative activity invites you to explore leadership, government, industry, public responsibility and your own personal values.

The Red Joker — For the Love of Country

Standing behind the King of Hearts, the Red Joker represents the relationship between elected leadership, industry, employment and the economy. As the Joker scatters playing cards onto the earth, each card symbolizes a seed of opportunity, communication, responsibility or financial growth.

The Black Joker — The Fire Within

Standing independently, the Black Joker represents the individual voice, personal leadership, civic participation and the freedom to contribute ideas. Its black playing cards become seeds of thought, community needs, questions and constructive action.

Three Rs. Three Perspectives. One Independent Decision.

Explore your choices through the Three Rs:

Realistic. Reasonable. Respectful.

Then consider the three perspectives of time:

Past. Present. Future.

Finally, draw your own Joker! Create symbols representing the character, knowledge, experience and values you would like to see in a leader.

Compare your artwork with the candidates' public records and proposals. Decide what matters most, what you can compromise on and which qualities you consider essential.

Your artwork is personal. Your reflections are your own. Your voting decision remains private.

No One Left Behind

Designed to accommodate different learning and processing styles, this activity offers a creative way to organize thoughts before making important decisions. No artistic experience or political affiliation is required.

Originally inspired by informed voting, The Jokers Are Wild! can also be adapted for personal planning, community participation, leadership development and other decisions.
