“Just a Spoonful of Sugar Helps the Information Go Down”
An INK-Vesta-Gation Cyber Awareness Adventure
The internet can feel overwhelming when something goes wrong. Strange redirects, suspicious emails, unfamiliar links, bots, phishing and malware can sound frightening before we even understand what happened.
So INK-Theory is adding a little sugar to the technical medicine.
Welcome to The Star of Cyberspace, where familiar storytelling meets modern internet awareness. Our characters turn complicated cybersecurity language into an adventure—with one important rule:
We don't begin by deciding who did it. We begin by understanding what happened.
★ Cast of Characters
IN-VESTA — The Investigator
Our deep-red-haired investigator follows evidence rather than assumptions. Her magnifying glass is always ready, but she knows that a possibility isn't proof.
PIXI-INK — The Guide
Our blue-haired Healing Life Coach turns intimidating technical information into language ordinary people can understand. Her greatest tool is curiosity.
J FOR JUSTICE — The Community Voice
Our mature H-Art Advocate keeps the investigation grounded in fairness, accountability and the people affected.
DNS-PHARMER — The Road-Sign Maker
A strange cyber-farmer surrounded by routers, cables and misleading signs. He introduces us to DNS and the possibility of traffic being directed somewhere unexpected.
CY-PHISHER — The Persuader
Our metallic tradesperson carries a toolbox full of tempting electronic bait: Login! Invoice! Security Alert! Click Here! His lesson is simple: sometimes the easiest way through a digital door is convincing somebody to open it.
MALWAR — The Misunderstood Lion
A fearsome creature made from corrupted code. Malware can be dangerous—but Malwar reminds us that strange computer behaviour isn't automatically proof that malware caused it.
THE SPOOF — Master of Disguise
She can resemble something familiar: a trusted email, logo, website or login screen. Her trick is not needing you to believe her forever—only long enough to click.
THE CRAWLERS — The Flying Monitors
A swarm of mechanical creatures moving from website to website. Some are legitimate search crawlers, some gather public information, and others may deserve a closer look. Their lesson? A bot isn't automatically a bad bot.
And finally, THE PEOPLE OF CYBERSPACE: artists, creators, small businesses, students, seniors, customers and communities—the people this adventure is really about.
ISSUE #1 — THE JOURNEY BEGINS
A Call for Help
A message arrives at IN-Vesta-Gation Headquarters:
BUSINESS CREATOR:
“People tried to visit my website... but some say they ended up somewhere else!”
IN-Vesta examines the report.
IN-VESTA:
“That's worth investigating. But a report of a redirect doesn't tell us what caused it.”
PIXI-INK:
“Then we'll make the complicated part understandable.”
J FOR JUSTICE:
“And we'll follow the evidence before blaming anyone.”
Suddenly, a glowing pathway appears.
The Data-Brick Road
The three follow it into the Star of Cyberspace.
Along the way they encounter DNS-Pharmer, Cy-Phisher, Malwar, The Spoof and the strange flying Crawlers.
Every character seems capable of explaining the mystery.
But that's exactly the problem.
IN-VESTA:
“A redirect might involve DNS. It might involve a website. It might be phishing, malware, a browser problem, a search result, an advertisement—or something else entirely.”
Malwar looks surprised.
MALWAR:
“So you're not automatically blaming me?”
IN-VESTA:
“Not without evidence.”
DNS-Pharmer lowers one of his strange road signs.
DNS-PHARMER:
“Then how will you know which road is real?”
J smiles.
J FOR JUSTICE:
“We trace the journey.”
And PIXI-INK reveals the four rules of travelling safely through Cyberspace:
PAUSE • PRESERVE • TRACE • VERIFY
PAUSE — Don't immediately click, delete or change things.
PRESERVE — Save screenshots, emails, URLs, dates and times.
TRACE — Ask what happened immediately before the unusual event.
VERIFY — Look for evidence supporting an explanation before reaching a conclusion.
IN-Vesta looks back at the enormous cast of suspicious-looking characters.
IN-VESTA:
“Something being technically possible doesn't mean that's what happened.”
And the Data-Brick Road lights up again.
Their investigation has only begun.
★ The Moral for Online Business Creators
The Internet is an extraordinary tool for independent creators and small businesses—but you don't have to become a cybersecurity expert to become a more informed digital business owner.
When something unusual happens, fear can make every unfamiliar character look like the villain.
Investigation asks a better question:
What actually happened—and what evidence would help us understand why?
Protect your passwords. Use multi-factor authentication. Preserve suspicious messages rather than interacting with them. Keep records of your original work. Document unusual website behaviour. And learn enough about the digital systems surrounding your business to know when something deserves professional investigation.
Most importantly:
Don't begin with WHO. Begin with WHAT HAPPENED.
Pause. Preserve. Trace. Verify.
Because in the Star of Cyberspace, curiosity brings us together—and knowledge helps us travel more safely.
