To our Canadian brewers, winemakers, distillers and cider makers:
We see the pressure you’re facing. You have built businesses, created jobs and supported communities. Now it’s our turn to stand beside you.
When a market closes its doors, let’s open ours.
Canada, get your local bands together, pull on your toques and let’s break the ice! Bring our musicians, artists, restaurants, licensed venues, retailers and community businesses together for weekends that celebrate Canadian-made drinks and the people behind them.
Let’s keep our makers warm through the economic cold.
I’m calling for a community effort across Winnipeg, growing toward an event every weekend in every ward: local music, local art, local food and Canadian beverages. Give our producers a place to tell their stories, introduce their products and connect with customers who want to support them.
Skating, sledding, skiing and curling can bring us together during the day. Then let the guitars ring out at a licensed evening gathering. Hey, hosers—let’s raise a glass to the people who make it here!
To businesses: feature Canadian products, book local performers and help sponsor an event.
To entertainers and artists: bring your talent, your audience and your Canadian spirit. Let’s build events that pay you while supporting our makers.
To our October 28 candidates: if you want to show that you understand our economic needs, join the effort. Help organize, connect businesses, find venues and listen to the workers whose livelihoods are affected. Bring a practical contribution along with your campaign promises.
To our neighbours: choose Canadian when you shop or order, attend a local event and spread the word. Whether you drink alcohol or come for the music, food and company, you have a place in this effort.
We won’t pretend one party can replace an export market. But together, we can build demand, strengthen connections and show our producers they have a community behind them.
Our message is simple:
You’re our makers. You’re our neighbours. We’re here for you.
Let’s igloo this one out of the hole!
